High school sports roundup: Mars girls tennis survives battle with Butler; Seneca Valley beats Moon
Mars girls tennis held on to beat Butler 3-2 in a WPIAL section clash Friday, claiming two key singles matches for the victory.
Gracie McCarty beat Butler’s Emily Hinch in Singles 2 6-1, 6-1, and Grace Nam fended off Sophia Kingsley 7-5, 7-5 in Singles 3 to clinch the win for the Planets. Bella Pazzaglia and Elaina Reiner won Mars a Doubles 1 point 7-5, 6-1.
The Tornado (5-6, 2-6) got a Singles 1 victory from Laini Spohn 6-3, 6-3 over Gianna Kampian. And the Doubles 2 pair of Cassie Busler and Lindsey Lipp won a tight match 6-3, 6-4.
Seneca Valley 3, Moon 2 — The Raiders got back to .500 on the year with a WPIAL sectional victory.
Anna Coon (Singles 3) beat Nithya Kaarthi 6-2, 6-1 to claim the Raiders’ only singles victory. The Doubles 1 pair of Emily Merola and Hannah Kenyon won 6-2, 6-3, and Jenna Muenck and Gia Medici claimed a Doubles 2 victory 6-2, 6-0.
Seneca Valley improved to 6-6 (4-3 section).
