Janet Hardie

Janet Clara Hardie, 77, of Portersville, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, at her home.

Born Dec. 7, 1946, in Harmony, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Vada (Frye) Hardie.

Janet was a 1964 graduate of Slippery Rock High School, and went on to obtain her master’s in elementary education from Slippery Rock University. She taught 12 years at Portersville Christian School and then went on to teach for Wycliffe Bible Translators in Columbia, South America, until her retirement in 1996. Janet was a member of Castlewood Alliance Church and was also affectionately known as the “Card Lady” for sending greeting cards for celebrations, encouragement and support.

She is survived by four brothers, Dan (Juanita), John (Shelia), Hugh “Skip” (Lillian) and Tom Hardie; six sisters, Shirley Dunlevy, Peggy Welker, Sally Hardie, Judy (Joe) Morris, JoAnn Hardie and Debbie (Eugene) George; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Alexander “Bud” and Alan Perry Hardie; and two sisters, Bonnie Christy and Diane Hardie, infant.

HARDIE — A celebration of the life of Janet Clara Hardie, who died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024, at Castlewood Alliance Church, 660 Harmony Baptist Road, New Castle.

She will be laid to rest in Harmony Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Janet’s memory to Portersville Christian School, 343 E. Portersville Road, Portersville, PA 16051.

Arrangements have been entrusted to THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.
