Three charged with burglarizing Butler Township appliance store

A group of three were arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 18 in connection with an alleged attempt to steal from an appliance store on New Castle Road in Butler Township.

Anthony Paul Savannah, 44, of Butler; Anthony Michael Savannah, 21, of Apalachicola, Fla.; and Damian P. Winters, 21, of Lyndora, have all been charged with second-degree felonies burglary and criminal conspiracy to engage in burglary in relation to an alleged incident that affected Gold’s Appliance Store.

In addition, the two Savannahs have also been charged with possessing an instrument of crime with intentional means.

According to an affidavit, David Gold, the owner of the appliance store, first reported that someone had stolen “a bunch of scrap” from his store and was carrying a shopping cart down McCandless Avenue. Gold also told police that he saw a group of three males flee down McCandless.

Police eventually found the shopping cart, which was abandoned and lying on its side with multiple items spilling out, including a trash bag full of clothes and a cardboard box full of dolls. The shopping cart was from the Gabe’s at Pullman Square.

Officers caught up with the trio near the Tractor Supply at Alameda Plaza. They were placed under arrest and brought back to Gold’s for identification, where multiple witnesses, including Gold, positively identified them as the three men he saw.

Another eyewitness reportedly saw the trio attempting to break through the rear door into Foster Pools, next door to Gold’s.

According to the police report, police found “instruments of crime” on both Anthony Paul Savannah and Anthony Michael Savannah during the arrest. A head lamp and gloves were found on Anthony Paul Savannah, and bolt cutters, a knife, and a mini sledgehammer was found on Anthony Michael Savannah, police said.

Preliminary hearings for the three are scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 26 at 9 a.m. in front of Judge Kevin P. O’Donnell. Bail for all three men is set at $10,000 apiece.

It is unclear whether, or how, Anthony Paul and Anthony Michael Savannah are related.
