ADAMS TWP — The new garage for the Adams Township Police Department is starting to take shape behind the township’s municipal building on Valencia Road. On Monday evening, Sept. 23, supervisors awarded the contracts for the mechanical, plumbing and electrical phases of the garage construction.

Air Systems Mechanical, which bid $39,900, was awarded the mechanical contract. W.K. Thomas, which bid $40,496, won the contract for plumbing, while Alderson Engineering, which bid $64,998.30, was awarded the electrical bid.

W.K. Thomas construction company based in Butler was already awarded the contract for the general construction at a board of supervisors meeting on May 13.

The new garage is only intended to house the police department’s vehicles. The staff offices for the police department will still be located in the basement of the township building on Valencia Road.

“The new building is for the vehicles, so they're not out in the weather all day,” said township engineer Rich Craft of Olsen Craft Associates. “It's a big parking area for all the police vehicles.”

According to township Supervisor Russell Ford, the combined cost of those three bids was much lower than expected.

“We had budgeted $200,000 for those three line items,” Ford said. “So we are $50,000 under budget.”

Craft said the plans are for the garage to be “substantially complete” by November and “totally complete” before Christmas, and for the roof to be ready in less than a month.
