Clinton Township denies offer for police coverage from Saxonburg
Despite an offer from Saxonburg’s mayor, Clinton Township has denied an offer for coverage from the Saxonburg Police Department and will stick with the coverage it is currently receiving from state police.
According to township manager Ashley Kohley, Saxonburg Mayor William Gillespie requested to be present for the township meeting on Sept. 11 to discuss police matters.
“As the board of supervisors are satisfied with the level of service provided by the Pennsylvania State Police, they have chosen not to enter into any additional policing arrangements at this time,” Kohley said.
According to an email obtained by the Butler Eagle, Gillespie entered into discussions with Clinton Township after acquiring a new K-9 officer named Bolt, along with K-9 handler Mark Heider. Had the proposal been accepted, newly hired officer Christian Renard would likely have been the designated officer to Clinton Township.
