SRU trustees approve creation of new engineering major

Slippery Rock University’s council of trustees approved the creation of a new engineering major program at their quarterly business meeting on Friday, Sept. 27.

The new major would offer a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical and computer engineering, and would be the sixth engineering program offered at the university. The council of trustees voted to forward the proposed program to the Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education, of which SRU is a member.

The program would consist of 123 credits to complete in mathematics, science, computer science and engineering.

“This program is designed to train students to be problem-solvers with skills in mathematics, creative design, leadership and communication, both verbal and written,” said Michael Zieg, SRU provost, in a news release.

The next step is for the Office of the Chancellor of PASSHE to approve the engineering program so it can be offered as soon as fall 2025.
