Firefighter struck after 2-vehicle crash in Portersville
A firefighter responding to a two-vehicle crash was struck by a vehicle on Perry Highway in Portersville on Monday, police said.
Emergency crews, including the Portersville/Muddy Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department, already were on scene on Perry Highway to respond to the crash involving two vehicles, one of which was a pickup truck from a Portersville concrete business.
According to Tim Saunders, chief of the Portersville/Muddy Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department, the struck firefighter was from the Prospect-Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation, and was sent home later on Monday.
“The firefighter was on the call in Portersville, and was struck by a motorist turning north from West Portersville Road,” said Saunders.
The crash occurred across the street from the Portersville post office. According to dispatch reports, the crash was reported shortly after 2 p.m.
The person who was struck initially was reported to be a pedestrian.
“There was a two-vehicle crash at that location, and a pedestrian was struck after the initial crash,” said Trooper Bertha Cazy of the state police.
