Sandra Loughry

Loughry

Sandra Jean Loughry, 75, died on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024, at Catholic Services Hospice, Holy Cross Hospital, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Sandy was born Sept. 20, 1948, in Indiana, Pa., to Tom and Jean Pavelchick. A 1966 graduate of Blairsville High School, Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and younger brother, Thomas.

Sandy, who had many interests and talents, was passionate about traveling with Don, her high school sweetheart and husband of 57 years. Sandy thoroughly enjoyed dancing, exercising and playing card games with her many friends. A beloved wife, mother, aunt and friend, Sandy treasured being known as “Grandma” and “Gigi” to her nine beloved grandchildren!

Among Sandy’s many talents was her creativity as a skilled seamstress, creating, for example, dress suits for her husband in the early years of their marriage, matching clothing for her two young sons, and, more recently, her daughter’s wedding dress, in addition to cherished baby blankets for her grandchildren. A longtime resident of Butler County, Sandy would ultimately become a travel consultant with AAA, where she remained for 35 years.

Sandy and Don started coming to South Florida as “snowbirds” in 2010, and, in 2013, with two children and three grandchildren now residing in South Florida, the decision was made to retire and live full-time in Fort Lauderdale, where Sandy led an active and full life for eleven years, enjoying the sunshine and diverse cultures that surrounded her, as well as many hours of babysitting! Living in South Florida expanded Sandy’s opportunities to regularly cruise throughout the world with her husband, dance and dine with friends, and spend treasured time with her grandsons in Florida. She especially enjoyed listening as they played piano and attending Grandparents Day events. Of course, it was always a special treat when her four “northern grandchildren” would come to visit!

Sandy will be deeply missed by Don; her children, and their spouses, Jeffrey and Debbie Loughry, Ken Loughry, and Michael and Beth Ann Seeman; and grandchildren, Troy, Katie, Brett and Sarah Loughry, Connor and Brennan Loughry, and Samuel, Wilson and Trey Seeman.

Additionally, Sandy is survived by her dear sister-in-law, Georgine Loughry; nephew, Randal Loughry; and nieces, Judy Scarfone, Nancy Garmon and Susan Haney; as well as many grandnephews and grandnieces.

Sandy’s family would like to extend special gratitude to Sandy’s nieces; grandnephew, Dain; and special friend, Danielle Bowen, who all graciously and generously helped care for Sandy in her precious final days.

If you knew Sandy, then you recognize that her generous heart, warm smile, infectious laugh, quick sense of humor and soft brown eyes created memories to be cherished by family and friends for years to come.

LOUGHRY — A celebration of life for Sandra Jean Loughry, who died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024, is planned for 6:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1. It will be held at the Highfield Community Center, 229 Highfield Road, Butler. All who loved and cared about Sandy are welcome!
