High school sports roundup: Michael Braun wins Bald Eagle Invitational, Freeport claims team title
Peyton Los dished out two assists in Freeport girls soccer’s 4-2 win over North Catholic on Saturday.
Four different Yellowjackets scored: Elena Jenkins, Ella McConville, Sam Liput and CeCe Schedule. Camryn Woods also had an assist.
North Catholic blanked Freeport 9-0 Saturday on senior day, as Jack Spirnak scored twice.
While Drew Schedlbauer and Dylan Shantz pitched a shutout, Gabe Nonino had a goal and assist for the Trojans. Justin Garvey, Austin English, John Manna and Matthew Liscinsky all scored.
Freeport’s boys won the Bald Eagle Invitational team title Saturday at White Oak Park.
Michael Braun’s first-place finish in 15 minutes, 38.34 seconds led the Yellowjackets, who had four runners in the Top 10 and finished with 34 points.
Teammates David Kristine (17:30.21) finished fifth, Ben Brestensky (17:31.86) finished seventh and Calvin Lindsay (17:44.44) eighth.
On the girls side, Freeport’s Mackenzie Magness crossed the finish line in 22:11.46 for 17th.
Seneca Valley at Grove City Invitational — The Raiders boys finished second with 101 points behind host Grove City (55), and the girls finished third with 90 points.
Max Smith led the boys with a fifth-place finish in 16:04, and Sawyer Shoup came in 12th in 16:51. Paige Damico finished third (19:56) to pace SV’s girls, who had three in the Top 10. Sydney Heltzell came in fifth (20:02) and Hannah Jones ninth (20:26).
Knoch’s Carter French finished fourth (16:03) in the boys race, and Natalie Zolinus finished 17th (20:44) in the girls race.
Mars’ boys finished ninth, led by Kyle Kochanski’s 15th-place finish (16:54). The Planets girls came in 14th, led by Fallon Bright (58th, 23:21).
