Butler High grad named to Nebraska cabinet

Butler Township native Lee Will was promoted in late September to the positions of chief operating officer and director for the Nebraska Department of Administrative Services by Gov. Jim Pillen.

Will began his career with the state in 2015 and served as a budget management analyst and deputy budget administrator before being named state budget administrator in 2020.

Pillen reappointed him to that position in 2023.

Will’s latest position became effective Sept. 28.

“Lee has been an exemplary leader over the state’s budget processes, to the benefit of all Nebraskans,” Pillen said. “Through his direction, the state enacted the most fiscally conservative budget in its history.”

Pillen said Will has worked closely with Nebraska state agencies and legislative partners to provide sound forecasting and budget advice.

“At the Department of Administrative Services, he will be able to implement additional spending reductions through direct oversight of the state’s procurement, facilities and vehicle fleet operations,” Pillen said. “I am excited for what he will bring to this new role.”

Will graduated from Butler Senior High School in 2007; Indiana University of Pennsylvania, with a degree in history and pre-law, in 2011; and the University of Pittsburgh in 2015 with a master’s degree in public administration.

He is the son of Diane and Roger Will, of Butler Township.

Will resides in Omaha with his wife, Amber, and daughters, Violet and Alexis.
