A father and son died in a murder-suicide on Sunday evening, Oct. 6, in Mercer County.

The Mercer County Coroner’s office said David E. Frew, 92, of West Salem Township, Mercer County, was pronounced dead Sunday from a gunshot wound to the head, in a manner ruled homicide. David C. Frew, 51, of Sharpsville, was transported by ambulance from the scene after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead in the emergency department of UPMC Horizon Greenville. David C. Frew’s cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound to the head in a manner ruled suicide, the coroner said.

David E. Frew is the father to David C. Frew. The scene investigation was performed in cooperation with the state police, according to the Mercer County Coroner’s office.
