Richard Hempfling, 74, of Butler, passed away on Friday, Oct. 4, 2024.

He was born in Butler on Sept. 8, 1950, to the late Paul and Dorothy (Hutchinson) Hempfling.

Richard graduated from Slippery Rock Area High School and was employed at Pullman Standard and then United Refining, where he retired as a manager. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Steelers, and spending time with his grandchildren. Richard was active in his church and taught Sunday school and Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, and he was a member of the men’s club.

Richard was the beloved husband of the late Kimberly Ann (Shea) Hempfling, since their marriage on Nov. 14, 1975; father of Richard (Athena) Hempfling Jr., Tara (Adam) Blose, Ashley (Chad) Young and Tyler (Tiffany) Hempfling; brother of Ed, Rob, Becky and Darlene; grandfather of 10 grandchildren; and great-grandfather of one great-granddaughter and one great-grandson on the way.

Along with his parents and wife, Richard was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law.

HEMPFLING — Family and friends of Richard Hempfling, who died Friday, Oct. 4, 2024, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at St. Faustina Parish, St. Christopher at the Lake Catholic Church, 232 N. Franklin St, Prospect. Burial will be held at Greenlawn.
