Miller Minutes: Fall fun abundant in Butler County. See what there is to do this weekend
As the leaves are changing color and autumn is sweeping its way past in a windy chill, we need to rehash a previous conversation.
If you recall, I spent a previous Miller Minutes discussing which was the superior fall flavor between apple and pumpkin. My vote is always for apple, as pumpkin is overdone. Now, I think it’s time we discussed another fall flavor that doesn’t get enough recognition: s’more.
Think about it. Here’s my logic…
Fall is the prime season for bonfires. A bonfire without s’mores may as well be a crime punishable by law. Over s’mores we tell ghost stories, sing songs, laugh and joke with our friends, and so much more (or s’more).
With this mindset, s’mores represent a togetherness that apples and pumpkins can’t replicate. You need help building a s’more, but not to eat an apple or carve a pumpkin. If autumn is about being cozy and spending time outside as the leaves fall around you, s’mores represent that picture more than any fall-adjacent fruit.
I think I have convinced myself, and so I’m changing my answer: s’more flavored things, from lattes to candy and cakes, are the superior fall flavor. Maybe in another issue we can debate the placement of maple or pecan flavored treats in the Fall Flavor Hierarchy.
If you’re looking to try some autumn goodies, from apple dumplings to pumpkin and pecan pies, there are plenty of events going on in Butler County where you can find them. Check out the following list!
