Union/A-C Valley football sputters one week after comeback win, falls to Brockway

RIMERSBURG — Union/A-C Valley football was hoping to pick up where it left off last week when a late touchdown lifted the Falcon Knights to victory over a strong Punxsutawney team.

But it was clear early on in Thursday’s game against Brockway that the momentum had not carried over.

Union/A-C Valley’s offense sputtered, gaining just 35 combined yards on its first four drives, and its defense was knocked onto its heels by a balanced Brockway attack as the Rovers opened up a 20-0 lead en route to a 41-20 win at Vidunas Stadium.

“There may have been a letdown after last week, but that’s no excuse,” Falcon Knights coach Dan Reed said. “Brockway was more prepared than us tonight, and that’s on me.”

Blake Pisarcik had carried the ball just 16 times before the game, but was thrust into the spotlight due to injuries. He responded with 133 yards on 20 carries and scored three total touchdowns for the Rovers.

“He made the most of the playing time,” Brockway coach Jake Heigel said. “It was also good to get Raiden (Craft, 91 yards rushing) going. We took control up front.”

The Rovers scored touchdowns on their first two drives, which covered 81 and 52 yards, respectively. Caleb Daugherty caught a 26-yard scoring pass from Aiden Patton to cap the first march and Craft ended the second with a 4-yard touchdown run.

Brockway‘s lead had swelled to 20-0 when the Falcon Knights finally came to life late in the first half.

Max Gallagher’s 21-yard run was followed by a short pass to Aidan Fox, who raced 46 yards for a touchdown with just 12 seconds remaining before halftime.

The extra point attempt was blocked, but the Falcon Knights had gained 67 of their 105 yards in the first half on the final two plays.

The Rovers (5-3, 4-2) erased the momentum when, just 67 seconds into the second half, Aiden Snowberger caught a 77-yard scoring pass from Patton.

The Falcon Knights responded with two touchdowns of their own in the third, Max Gallagher and Trent Fleming both catching scoring passes from Owen Bish to cut the deficit to 27-20.

But the fourth quarter belonged to Pisarcik and the Rovers. He scored from 3 and 63 yards out.

“I don’t think their scheme bothered us,” Reed said. “We just missed tackles and missed assignments.

“Down 20-0 and 27-6, a lot of teams would’ve given up. But there’s no quit in our kids.”
