Recently graduated Butler star distance runner Drew Griffith has claimed his first honor early in his collegiate career.

Griffith, running in his first cross country season at Notre Dame, was named the ACC freshman of the week Tuesday.

He placed 12th in the Irish’s Joe Piane Invitational on Oct. 4, crossing the finish line in a time of 22 minutes, 53.9 seconds.

“This weekend was a great step forward for Drew,” Notre Dame coach Chris Neal said in a news release.
