Electrical outage interrupts classes, homecoming events at SRU
An electrical outage prompted changes to Slippery Rock University’s class and homecoming events schedule Friday, Oct. 11.
The university issued a two-hour delayed opening and moved classes in many buildings online.
Buildings impacted by the outage include six classroom buildings on lower campus, seven residence halls, Boozel Dining Hall, Bailey Library and the university’s Smith Student Center, where a number of homecoming events are scheduled.
Also without power are the Aebersold Recreation Center, Jack Critchfield Park and the Campus Success Center, formerly the University Union.
The outage was reported about 7:30 a.m. and is under investigation, according to Justin Zackal, communication specialist for the university.
“There is no indication of destruction or downed lines,” he said. “We are taking measures to ensure the safety and well-being of our students.”
Some homecoming events have been relocated to upper campus, according to campus emails.
The university will issue more information following a midday meeting, Zackal said.
