Mirage 100th birthday
Ruth Mirage, of Saxonburg, celebrated her 100th birthday on Oct. 3 at a party at Magnolia Place of Saxonburg with her family and friends.
The former Ruth Banyay was born on Oct. 3, 1924, in Pittsburgh.
She married Thomas Mirage on Oct. 2, 1954, at St. Matthias Roman Catholic Church in Evans City. He is deceased.
She has four children, Donna Martin of Butler Township, and Lawrence, Joe and Harry Mirage, all of Cochranton, Crawford County.
She also has eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mirage graduated from Evans City High School in 1942 as valedictorian. She worked at Spithaler Hardware in Evans City, and later she and Thomas had a mink farm at their home on Hutchman Road in Adams Township.
The couple moved the mink farm to Cochranton and lived between their two homes for many years.
Mirage worked at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Mars for several years after her children were grown, and she retired in 1995.
She was active at St. Kilian Roman Catholic Church in Cranberry Township, where she belonged to the Christian Mothers group.
In years past, Mirage enjoyed taking bus trips with her husband, sewing, cooking and baking.
