College sports roundup: Pitt basketball to retire Sam Clancy’s jersey; Lachendro-Biery sets SRU record
The University of Pittsburgh will retire the No. 15 jersey of men’s basketball legend Sam Clancy.
Pitt made the announcement during Saturday’s football game. Clancy’s jersey will be retired during a ceremony Jan. 18, 2025, when the Panthers host Clemson.
He was a four-year starter at Pitt from 1977-81 and is the only player in program history with at least 1,000 points (1,671) and 1,000 rebounds (1,362).
Senior libero Kate Lachendro-Biery broke Slippery Rock’s record for career digs when she finished with 1,980 after the weekend.
Lachendro-Biery broke a 24-year-old record set by Sally Scott. Lachendro-Biery had 35 digs Saturday in a 3-2 SRU loss to IUP.
SRU head coach Jessica Giegucz won her 100th game with The Rock’s 2-1 victory over Seton Hill on Saturday.
