1 charged with homicide in death of missing Armstrong County man
A man has been charged with homicide in the shooting death of a man who had been reported missing in Armstrong County, according to state police.
Cody J. Weiland, 33, of Plumcreek Township, has been charged with homicide and other charges in the death of David E. Kimberly, 56, of Rural Valley, police said.
Police say he confessed to shooting Kimberly, gathered some belongings and left his home on Reefer Hollow Road in his van on Sept. 23 after his wife told him she wanted a divorce. Following an investigation, he was listed as a missing person and investigators took up the investigation on Oct. 6.
On Saturday, Oct. 12, Kimberly’s van was found in a wooded area near his home. The van had been altered in an attempt to conceal it, police said.
After further investigation and an interview with Weiland, he confessed to shooting Kimberly with a gun in a home along Reefer Hollow Road and then moving his body to a remote area in Jefferson County, police said. The body was located and recovered, police said.
Weiland was charged with first-degree murder, homicide, abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence and false reports. He is being held in the Armstrong County Jail waiting to be arraigned.
