High school sports roundup: Trojanettes on verge of title
North Catholic rolled to the WPIAL Class 2A girls tennis team championship round with a 4-1 win over Oakland Catholic in a semifinal held Wednesday at Shady Side Academy.
Delaney Kelley and Evelyn Marche both won for the Trojanettes in singles play. North also received doubles victories from the tandems of Katie Hardy/Jessica Sinclair and Samantha Falcon/Macaria Stall.
North Catholic, the top seed, will face No. 2 Quaker Valley for the district title at 2 p.m. Thursday at Washington & Jefferson College.
Boys soccer
Max Kovacik scored two goals, the second one coming in overtime, as Slippery Rock closed the regular season with a 2-1 win over Mercer.
Nick Olshanski and Zach Lasko both had an assist for the Rockets (12-6).
