Butler Memorial Hospital announces new CT scanner

Independence Heath System announced that Butler Memorial Hospital has purchased a Siemens Healthineers SOMATOM Force dual-source computed tomography scanner.

The new scanner will assist health care professionals in diagnosing, treating and monitoring a number of medical conditions and injuries, such as lung cancer, heart disease, internal bleeding, fractures and more.

The scanner has freeze motion technology which allows doctors to perform an entire chest, abdomen and pelvis study on an adult in just one second.

“The SOMATOM Force CT scanner allows for highly specialized testing, such as a Coronary CT Angiograms, which help detect coronary artery disease,” Dr. Rekha Pinto, cardiologist at Butler Memorial Hospital said. “These detailed scans enable us to better access the severity of the disease and determine an appropriate treatment option.”

With the new scanner, it broadens the reach of patients with other conditions, such as renal insufficiency, who are sensitive to contrast.

It also allows for low-dose lung cancer screenings which can be achieved with the same contrast-to-noise ratio, using reduced IV contrast without losing the quality of the image.
