Pennsylvania American Water and Butler Area Sewer Authority returned to the site of a water main break Thursday morning, Oct. 17, at the intersection of Penn and Washington streets in Butler, which could cause nearby agencies to close.

At about 9 a.m. this morning, water could be seen bubbling up onto the street, and water crews waited nearby until the school buses had finished their routes to Emily Brittain Elementary School. A water main break had been reported in the same area at around 5 p.m. Wednesday evening.

A photo of the water main break, submitted Wednesday to the Butler Eagle, showed water spewing high into the air on Penn Street.

The Butler YMCA had to close Wednesday evening because of the water main break, and an employee said Thursday morning that it may have to close again if the water is shut off to deal with the issue.

That employee said he saw water bubbling from the intersection Penn and Washington streets this morning upon his arrival to work at 4 a.m. this morning.

A crossing guard at Emily Brittain said students would have to be transported to Butler Intermediate High School if the water is shut off today.
