PIAA high school football Week 9: Final scores, live updates, recaps, photos and more from Butler County games

Let’s take a quick look at the playoff picture as Butler County football teams hit Week 9. Who’s in, who’s out and who’s on the bubble?

Inside track: Karns City is all but a lock, second in District 9, Region 1 behind Central Clarion. In Region 2, Union/A-C Valley is fourth, has winless Moniteau left and should easily grab a Class 1A playoff spot.

Mars and Knoch are fighting for two of the WPIAL Class 4A playoff spots. Both are 2-1 in the Greater Allegheny Conference behind McKeesport, leaving one to likely clinch one of the league’s automatic bids and the other a potential wild card contender.

Seneca Valley could struggle in the final two weeks against two very good teams but should still qualify for a 6A playoff spot.

Freeport is in good shape to qualify in 3A as one of the top three in the Allegheny Seven Conference.

Outside looking in: North Catholic is still alive in 3A but would really help its odds by pulling off an upset over Avonworth and then beating Hopewell. There’s still a chance if the Trojans go 1-1, but they’ll rely on the selection committee to make them a wildcard.

Out: Butler is an independent and cannot play in the postseason; Slippery Rock and Moniteau are out, and while Summit Academy is still technically not eliminated, it is 0-4 in section play and needs tons of help to get in.
