On Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, the world lost a remarkable soul with the passing of Brenda Marlene Ketchem, 70, affectionately known as “Bem.” Born on May 16, 1954, in Butler Brenda lived a life full of love and thoughtfulness until her final days in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Brenda is preceded in death by her parents, William D. and Josephine Reader Ketchem; her brother, Edward Ketchem.

She is survived by her brother, William A. (Chris) Ketchem; her sister, Cathy (Ken) Bronder; and her sister, Denise (Gary) Tipton. Brenda’s heart was filled to the brim with love for her many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her life.

Brenda was a best friend of 60 years to Linda McDonald Evans, and loved Linda’s mother, Catherine (Dolly) McDonald, like a second mom. She was also blessed to have a lifelong bond with her childhood friend, Karla Weirich. Another dear friend who brought joy to her life is Melody Mannino, whom Brenda met during her adventurous years as a flight attendant.

Brenda’s life journey began in Butler, where she graduated from Butler High School in 1972. Her adventurous spirit and love for travel led her to a rewarding career as a flight attendant. Brenda’s career took her across the United States and to over 30 countries, allowing her to explore new cultures and landscapes. Rome, Italy, held a particularly special place in her heart, often referred to as her home away from home. Brenda retired in 2020, after many years of dedicated service, but continued to travel and explore the world.

Brenda had a deep love for the Florida beaches and was always eager to try new activities. Her greatest joy, however, came from spending time with her family and friends. Brenda embraced every opportunity to connect with those she cared about. Whether it was through her beautifully written notes, phone calls, or the perfect gift, she had a unique ability to remember the little things that mattered most to those around her.

Brenda Marlene Ketchem’s life was a testament to the beauty of kindness, the adventure of travel, and the joy of connection. She was a devoted sister, a cherished friend, and a beloved aunt. Her generous heart and warm spirit touched all who knew her, and she will be dearly missed but forever remembered.

KETCHEM — A memorial service to honor and celebrate the life of Brenda Marlene Ketchem, who died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, will be held 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, at SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler. A prayer service will immediately follow in the funeral home. Family and friends are graciously invited to attend and share in the remembrance of a life beautifully lived.

As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made in Brenda’s memory to the First United Methodist Church in Butler, the Shriner’s Hospital, or St. Jude’s, institutions that were close to her heart.
