Harrisville seeks court appointment of council member

Harrisville Borough Council is asking for a court appointment to a position on council that has been vacant since 2022.

Through solicitor Michael Gallagher, council members Kathy Bray, April Anschutz, Dave Evans, Gary Wray, John McFadden and Dennis Blom filed a petition Tuesday, Oct. 15 in Common Pleas Court asking for a seventh council member to be appointed. The petition says the position has been vacant since at least 2022.

The petition also includes the names of two registered borough voters, Carolyn Steglich and Juanita Joseph, who have volunteered to fill the position.

In a letter of interest sent to borough council in July, Steglich said County Commissioner Kevin Boozel of Harrisville asked her to apply to fill the vacancy. She said she has lived in the borough since 1990 and retired as a Slippery Rock University faculty member in 2015.

Joseph sent a letter of interest and resume in June. She said she works as a group leader for Shiloh Industries.

President Judge S. Michael Yeager scheduled a hearing on the petition for Dec. 6.

Council members could not be reached for comment.
