Historic Forward Township church to hold open house

Friends of North Union Church will hold an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the historic church and cemetery at 480 Beacon Road, Renfrew, Forward Township.

The event is being held to honor the volunteers who painted the church’s exterior and to thank the supporters of the ongoing restoration of the historic building.

The 1860 church was built by Scottish and Irish immigrants who made Butler County their home when they arrived in America. Their religion was known as “Covenanter,” which eventually became the Reformed Presbyterian faith.

The church is no longer used for religious services, but the adjacent cemetery contains the remains of the founder of Renfrew and others whose descendants make up the Friends of North Union Church.

All are invited to attend.
