Adams Twp. Halloween parade generates plenty of family fun
ADAMS TWP — Smiles were in abundance when the township hosted its annual Halloween costume contest and parade at the municipal building on a bright Saturday afternoon, Oct. 19.
Dozens of elementary school-age children suited up as their favorite television or movie characters as the Adams and Callery volunteer fire departments guided the march through Community Park.
While the event has gone on for a decade, it was Brian Perry’s second year in charge of making sure it ran smoothly.
“Really just coordinating with my advisory board,” said Perry, the township’s parks and recreation director. “We were lucky enough to partner with the Girl Scouts this year. They’re helping with refreshments and with judging our costumes. Also, another big help was Giant Eagle for donating all the cookies and cider.”
Perry estimated that about 100 people participated in the parade last year and expected that many would show up for this year’s installment.
There were four categories in the costume contest: funniest, cutest, most creative and best group. Gift cards to places like Target, Amazon, GameStop and Build-a-Bear were given to the winners.
Kim, John, Luke and Karlee Hentschel and their dog, Bella, showed up as characters from Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.” The family always makes an effort to attend the annual event.
“We’ve always wanted to do a group costume, and she (Karlee) wanted to be the Little Mermaid,” Kim Hentschel said. “So we just went and made it happen.”
Meanwhile, Christa and Matt Lancaster were more than happy to dress up as characters from “Bluey,” much to the delight of their young son, Logan.
“We would come with our nieces and nephews before (Logan) was born, and this is actually Logan’s second year,” Christa said. “Logan’s obsessed with ‘Bluey.’ It’s his favorite show, and he’s very excited to be ‘Bluey.’”
