Butler man charged with using tracking device to stalk ex-girlfriend

A Butler man has been charged with stalking his former girlfriend for four months by using tracking devices.

State police charged Larry D. Males, 45, on Monday, Oct. 21, with felony stalking and summary criminal mischief. He was arraigned and placed in Butler County Prison in lieu of $70,000 bail.

Males’ ex-girlfriend told police on Aug. 31 that she had home security camera footage dated Aug. 28 of someone under her vehicle with a flashlight, and over the next few days, she saw Males at multiple public places throughout the county.

She told police she suspected Males was tracking her, so she asked someone to crawl under her vehicle, and a TCL tracking device inside a magnetic box was removed from the vehicle. She put the device in a plastic bag and drove to the state police barracks, police said.

On Monday police interviewed a woman who said Males acquired a tracking device from Amazon in April, and she was there while he used it to track his ex-girlfriend, according to the affidavit.

The woman told police that Males bought a TCL tracking device from a cellphone store in Butler in May and used that device instead of the previously purchased device. She saw him place the device on the ex-girlfriend’s vehicle and track her until August, according to the affidavit.

Police said the woman had firsthand knowledge about Males removing and replacing the device on the ex-girlfriend’s vehicle multiple times.
