Butler Township seeks fire service study

Butler Township is planning ahead when it comes to providing fire protection and EMS services for its residents.

At a Monday, Oct. 21 meeting, the township approved hiring Delta Development Corporation for about $36,000 to take an in-depth look at existing services and develop a strategic plan for providing those services in the future.

“I just want to make this perfectly clear. This has nothing to do with the current performance of the township volunteer fire district,” Township Fire Chief Scott Frederick said. “Very dedicated men and women serve the community, but … we have new developments coming in; we have more developments happening.

“We need to make sure that we’re meeting the needs of this community.”

A committee, including the fire chief and township manager, township commissioners and others of the department will be involved in the study, and the public also will have a chance to offer input.

A public report will be prepared by Delta Development Corporation with findings and recommendations.
