The Butler City Council ordered the demolition of a house at 34 Thomas Ave. at its meeting Thursday night, Oct. 24, calling the structure a public nuisance and “detrimental to public health.”

Butler code enforcement officer Kevin Dunkle said the house isn’t salvageable.

“There’s a lot of structural issues with this home,” Dunkle said. “The roof has holes in it, and it’s caving in some. (The home is) actually missing a big section of the foundation on the west side.”

A notice, dated Sept. 19, has been placed on the front door declaring it “unfit for human occupancy” and in “imminent danger of failure or collapse.

No date has been set for the demolition yet.

“Just because we’re taking this step, it doesn’t mean that tomorrow the wrecking ball will be here,” said Butler Mayor Bob Dandoy. “It takes a while.”
