Lyndora church uses mid-century recipe to create buttery little pockets of heavenly food

Pierogi pride

Members of Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church put the fun in fundraiser, and the delicious, too.

Volunteers from the church in the Lyndora section of Butler Township have been cranking out from-scratch pierogi by the dozen since 1957. The delicious half-circles of mashed potato and cheese stuffed inside homemade dough and boiled are sold every other Friday from May to September at the church hall.

Covered in sauteed onions and slathered in salted butter, those in the pierogi-know have been buying the delicious dumplings at the savory-smelling church hall for decades.

All proceeds from the pierogi sales benefit the small church’s budget, upkeep and maintenance.

The next pierogi sale will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at the church hall at 10 Arbor St., Lyndora. Those who would like to order must call ahead, as the product sells out quickly.

To order, call 724-282-6190.
