Police: Drunken driver crashes, injures himself, passenger
A Butler man has been charged with drunken driving in connection with a June crash in which he and his passenger were injured.
Butler Township police filed charges Brandon A. Dolan, 29, of Butler, for his role in the June 4 one-car accident on Litman Road that left him and passenger Jacob Crispen injured.
Officers who responded to the crash at 6:36 p.m. found blood in and around the driver’s compartment, paperwork addressed to Dolan, an empty bottle of bourbon in the back seat area and a half empty bottle of bourbon in the front of the car, according to an affidavit. Police said they were told two men fled from the car after it crashed into an embankment.
A short time later Crispen was found as he walked out of the woods, and he told police that he and Dolan separated in the woods because Dolan’s injuries prevented him from walking further, according to the affidavit. Crispen complained about severe back pain and was limping, and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital.
Dolan was found when he tried to leave the area by getting a ride with a friend, police said. Deputy county sheriffs pulled the friend’s truck over on Route 8, just south of the Picklegate Crossing. Dolan was not wearing a shirt, showed signs if intoxication such as slurred speech and glassy and bloodshot eyes, and was taken to the hospital for a leg injury, according to the affidavit.
At the hospital, Crispen told officers that Dolan picked him up from work in Gibsonia and they had a shot of bourbon before they left, and that Dolan was driving when the crash occurred, according to the complaint.
Dolan did not consent to a blood test, but police obtained a search warrant for his medical records from the hospital, which showed he had a blood alcohol content of 0.123% at 9:33 p.m. June 4. A person is considered legally drunk in the state with a blood alcohol content of 0.08%. His preliminary hearing has not been scheduled.
