Sexual assault suspect charged with attempting to bribe accuser
A Butler man who is in the county prison facing allegations of sexually assaulting a woman is facing new charges alleging he asked someone to offer the woman $1,000 bribe to drop the charges against him.
State police charged John B. Bujak, 64, with criminal solicitation on Thursday, Oct. 24 for calling someone from prison on Oct. 21 and asking that person to offer the money to the woman he’s accused of sexually assaulting, according to an affidavit.
In the recorded phone call, Bujak says: “So I want to offer her $1,000 to drop charges on me. I’ll have $1,000 when I get out because I’m (going to) sell my truck. But you guys can’t say that I asked you. You guys have to say, look umm we don’t think Johnny deserves to go to jail over this. We want to make you a cash offer for you to drop charges and get the judge to drop Pennsylvania charges. If you do that, we will give you umm $1,000 for pain and suffering you know and be done with it. But I’ll get you her number, that’s irrelevant right now,” according to the affidavit.
On Oct. 18, police charged Bujak with felonies sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse involving an unconscious person, two counts of aggravated indecent assault and misdemeanor charges of indecent assault of an unconscious person and indecent assault. He is being held in prison in lieu of $100,000 bond.
The woman contacted police at 12:45 a.m. Oct. 16 and reported she had been sexually assaulted by Bujak a few hours before making the call, according to an affidavit.
Police said she reported that she went to Bujak’s home in Jefferson Township on the afternoon of Oct. 15 and slept on the couch. She said she woke up around 10 p.m., found her pants and underwear had been removed and noticed a sex toy on a nearby coffee table, according to the affidavit.
She said she confronted Bujak, who gave her the clothes and took her home. She then sent him a text message, and he admitted to sexually assaulting her while she slept, according to the affidavit. Further investigation revealed Bujak sexually assaulted her, police said.
Bujak on Tuesday waived his preliminary hearing into the sexual assault charges. His bond was reduced from $200,000 to $100,000.
