Buffalo Township resident Helen Comperatore and her daughters were invited to attend an Election Day watch party with former President Donald Trump in Palm Beach, Fla.

Comperatore, the widow of Corey Comperatore — the Buffalo Township firefighter who died while attending the July 13 campaign rally for Trump at the Butler Farm Show grounds — said Monday, Nov. 4, that it was an unexpected invite, but “a very exciting moment for the girls and I.”

Although she was excited to get a call from one of Trump’s staffers with the invitation, Comperatore said she does not plan to go to the watch party, but her two daughters and one of their fiances will be attending.

“I am really emotional this week,” Comperatore said. “This election means a lot for me. This election is just a little piece of justice for me. I feel like I need to be here at home, for Corey.”

Corey Comperatore died while shielding his family from the shooting at Trump’s July 13 rally, which also injured Trump and two other attendees. Corey was honored at a funeral the following week by numerous fire departments and other emergency responders, as well as by Trump at the Republican National Convention.

The Butler Farm Show grounds also displayed a memorial to Corey, which Helen visited in August.

Helen Comperatore said she had spoken with Trump by phone after the rally. She and her daughters also met Trump before his Oct. 5 rally in Butler County.

Although she will not be traveling to Florida, she said she hopes her daughters have a nice experience in her stead.

“I think this will be good to get away to,” she said, “get away from a reminder of that day.”
