John ‘Jack’ Smith III

John M. “Jack” Smith III, 89, of Cranberry Township, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024, while under the care of UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township.

Born May 10, 1935, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late John M. Smith II and Helen Marie Hied Smith.

Catholic by faith, Jack was a member of St. Kilian Parish. He drove truck for the Teamsters union for many years. Jack enjoyed mowing grass, cutting wood and his tractors. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his family.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his three children, Sandra Zahn and her husband, Lloyd, of New Brighton, John Smith and his wife, Leslie, of New Brighton and Thomas Smith of Cranberry Township; three granddaughters, Erin Lewis and her husband, Dan, Samantha Smith and Kara Smith; his great-grandchildren, Riley and Logan Lewis; and his brother, Timothy Smith.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lavon D. “Bunny” Smith, whom he married on Feb. 19, 1955, and who passed away on Aug. 29, 2016.

SMITH — A blessing service for John M. “Jack” Smith III, who died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, at BOYLAN-GLENN-KILDOO FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 130 Wisconsin Ave., Cranberry Township, with the Rev. Father Charles S. Bober as celebrant. He will be laid to rest at Pinewood Memorial Gardens in Cranberry Township.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Jack’s honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
