PIAA soccer, volleyball roundup: North Catholic, Mars girls advance to quarterfinals
North Catholic girls soccer narrowly got past Bedford 2-1 in overtime of a PIAA Class 2A first-round girls soccer matchup Tuesday night.
Julia Siket scored both goals for the Trojanettes (17-4), including the winner with five seconds left in overtime. Simone Sharpless had an assist.
North Catholic plays District 10 champion Cathedral Prep, which beat WPIAL runner-up Burrell, next in a quarterfinal Saturday at a site and time to be determined.
Mars 5, Harbor Creek 0 — No other details were available for the Planets’ PIAA Class 3A first-round win. Mars, the WPIAL third-seed, will face WPIAL champ South Fayette, which beat DuBois 5-0 in Tuesday’s other first-round game. The site and time for Saturday’s quarterfinal will be announced later this week.
Mars boys soccer lost 4-0 at Conrad Weiser in a PIAA Class 3A first-round matchup on Tuesday night. The Planets finish their campaign with a 16-3-4 record.
North Catholic’s season ended in the PIAA Class 4A first round, 3-2 against District 6 champion State College. No stats were available.
