Christie Avenue Playground sees support in 2008
It took almost four years for Moms for a Good Change to raise the $17,600 needed for new playground equipment, but through donations, hard work and community contributions, the group saw its plan completed Oct. 30, 2008.
The group helped install a new jungle gym at the Christie Avenue playground Oct. 8, when almost 20 people from the neighborhood arrived to lend a hand spreading mulch after the city workers pitched in for the safety surface and excavated the site.
The project was born in 2004, when Moms for Good Change began recycling ink cartridges and cellphones, raising $600.
Donations provided $7,000, including a $3,000 donation from the Butler Jr. Women's Club, and donations of $1,000 each came in from the Butler Lions Club, Soroptimist International of Butler County and the Butler Rotary Club. Another $1,000 was raised by neighbors and the community.
A $10,000 grant by KaBOOM!, a nonprofit agency that focuses on playgrounds and community building, provided the funding to finally see the project through.
