Atwell Mellette

Margaret Ann Vanderlin Atwell Mellette, 89, passed away Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, while a resident of Sunnyview Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Butler.

“Peg” was born at Rosalie Foundling Home in Pittsburgh on Sept. 29, 1934. She was adopted by Horatio and Margaret Vanderlin of Butler when she was 5. She graduated from Butler High School in 1952 and worked for many years as a legal executive assistant with numerous prestigious law firms and corporations across the country.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Atwell of Meadville; her son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Cindy Atwell of Erie; and her son, Weston Atwell of Butler. She has three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, attorney George C. Atwell; and her second husband, Lawrence D. Mellette.

Peg enjoyed knitting and she loved to sing and dance, even in Walmart.

A Mass intention will be held at St. Paul Church in Butler.
