Dennis Geibel
Dennis A. “Denny” Geibel, 72, of Chicora, passed away suddenly Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024.
He was born March 25, 1952, in Butler, a son of the late George “Pete” and Mary Knoll Geibel.
Denny grew up in Rattigan on the family farm, where he learned to love the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and loved to mow grass and tend to his oil wells. He spent hours in his garage, either singing, playing guitar or tinkering on his latest venture. If he wasn’t in his garage, you could find him in the kitchen baking his famous chocolate chip cookies. In his later years, he developed an obsession with meeting friends for breakfast, lunch or dinner. He also enjoyed playing cards, dominoes and marbles.
While he enjoyed all of these fun things, nothing brought him greater pleasure than his grandkids. He was glad to attend any musical, sporting event, dance recital, and any other event they were involved in. He was the best “Pappy.”
Denny was a 1970 graduate of Karns City High School. He was formerly employed at ServiStar in East Butler for 27 years and then with the County of Butler until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Bradys Bend.
Throughout his life, Denny would wow crowds with his guitar and his voice. He was part of many bands and loved to entertain, whether it was running a karaoke gig, or as a front singer. Most recently, he was a member of “The Second Hand Band.” He had the uncanny ability to yodel. He was beyond proud when he was asked to yodel for the crowd at an Irish pub on his visit to Ireland.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene “Dolly” Ryan Geibel, whom he married Aug. 17, 1979; three children, Kristie Martin and her husband, Tom, of Herman, Michael Geibel and his wife, Mollie, of Leonard, Mich., and Shawna Gerhart and her husband, Ethan, of Butler; 10 grandchildren, Allison Martin Seezox and her husband, Nate, Wyatt Geibel, Brodie Martin, Kamryn Martin, Keersten Geibel, Elsie Gerhart, Sean Martin, Emmett Geibel, Ayla Gerhart and Jude Gerhart.
Also surviving are two sisters, Karen Thompson and her husband, Ron, of Butler, and Elaine Peth and her husband, Ron, of Renfrew; one brother, George Daniel Geibel of Kittanning; a sister-in-law, Donna Geibel-Koshland of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant grandson, Keegen Geibel; one brother, James “Jim” Geibel; and one niece, Megan Peth.
