Police say Butler man pulled gun on father who approached him about talking to his minor daughter online

A 29-year-old Butler man was charged Monday, Nov. 4 after police say he pulled a gun on a father who confronted him about talking to his 16-year-old daughter on social media.

Butler city police filed the terroristic threats charge against Barry J. Murray following the alleged August gun incident.

A man reported to police on Sept. 22 that he went to Murray’s home on Aug. 9 to confront him about talking to his daughter on Facebook, police said.

The man reported that when Murray saw him coming, he met him outside on the street, drew a handgun and threatened to shoot him, according to an affidavit.

Murray cycled the gun causing a 9 mm bullet to eject and fall on the ground, before picking up the bullet and leaving, according to the affidavit.

Police said the father recorded the incident on his phone, but the camera was pointing toward the ground, and there was music playing in the background making it difficult for police to hear what was said.

An officer heard what sounded like a gun being cycled. No gun was visible in the recording, but it showed Murray picking up a 9 mm bullet from the sidewalk, according to the affidavit.
