Christopher Steel Thompson Jr., 100, of Wexford, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024, while under the care of Sunrise of McCandless.

Born on Dec. 22, 1923, in Birmingham, Ala., he was the son of the late Christopher Steel Thompson Sr., and Hilda (Carlson) Thompson.

In 1940, Chris was nominated by his peers to attend Boys State at Florida State University. Returning from Boys State, Chris would go on to graduate from high school in 1941.

Chris graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy in September 1943. He would go on to serve on several different ships during his naval career, including the USS Wisconsin.

In 1946, Chris met the love of his life, Catherine Ladley, and they shared 62 years together.

Following his retirement as lieutenant commander in 1964, Chris served as a volunteer at the Heinz VA Hospital in Aspinwall for over 25 years.

He then joined the Perry Highway Wexford American Legion Post 161, where he was a member for 67 years. For 25 of those years, he was the commander of the Wexford post, and also was the finance officer for the 32nd District.

THOMPSON — Friends and family of Christopher Steel Thompson Jr., who died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at BOYLAN-GLENN-KILDOO FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 130 Wisconsin Ave., Cranberry Township.

A funeral service with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Cranberry Community United Presbyterian Church, 2662 Rochester Road, Cranberry Township. Please everyone, meet at the church for the service.

A committal service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Road, Bridgeville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Chris’s honor to the Richland American Legion, Post 548, P.O. Box 171, Bakerstown, PA 15007.
