PIAA soccer roundup: North Catholic, Seneca Valley girls knocked out in quarterfinals
North Catholic scored first, but Cathedral Prep retaliated in the second half and went on to beat the Trojanettes 2-1 in the PIAA Class 2A girls soccer quarterfinals Saturday at Franklin High School.
Lauren Mealie headed in a corner kick to give North Catholic (17-5) a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute.
But Olivia Dixon won it for Prep (19-2-1) with a 76th-minute goal, sending the Ramblers to the state semifinals against WPIAL champion Quaker Valley, which beat District 3 runner-up Trinity 3-0 Saturday, 5 p.m. Tuesday at Franklin High School. Brooklyn DiRaimo tied the game before that in the 50th minute.
Conestoga 2, Seneca Valley 0 — The District 1 fifth seed scored two second-half goals within six minutes of each other to break a scoreless tie in Saturday’s PIAA Class 4A quarterfinals at Chambersburg High School, sending the Raiders (15-4-2) home.
Conestoga (21-3) faces District 1 runner-up Lower Merion, which beat Central Dauphin 3-0 in another quarterfinal, in a semifinal 7 p.m. Tuesday at Norristown High School.
