2 monuments honor Butler County veterans, encourage continued appreciation for veterans for generations to come
Two new monuments in Butler County honor those who have served our country.
On Monday, Nov. 11, a new monument, located beside Karns City’s municipal building on Main Street, was dedicated. The monument stands 8 feet tall and features six bronze plaques, one for each branch of the U.S. armed forces.
And on Sunday, Nov. 10, another monument was supposed to be dedicated with similar cause in Callery. This new display, also outside the municipal building, took three years of planning and construction.
Weather delayed the Sunday ceremony that would have brought together local elected officials and veterans alike to dedicate the memorial, which will serve to honor veterans past, present and future, but that monument will be dedicated at a future time.
Here in Butler County, we are always encouraged by how our residents show up for our veterans.
This Veterans Day, we weren’t surprised to see these displays because of the way our residents have showed their support of those who serve, but pleased to see these monuments erected for veterans of today and tomorrow.
Because of the efforts that our leaders are taking now, we know that the way Butler County remembers and treats its veterans will continue well into the future.
Monuments will exist across the county to serve as a solid reminder to the service that veterans have and will continue to do to defend our country. — TL
