Police Reports

The following items were collected from various police departments:

Adams Twp

Oct. 8 — Raymond J. Vinson, 59, of Valencia, was charged with misdemeanor counts of driving with a suspended license and habitual offender related to an Aug. 26 investigation into a theft. Police said while reviewing security footage, they saw Vinson drive into the Sheetz parking lot. Police said they know Vinson’s license to be suspended and he has been designated a habitual offender. Police said Vinson also stole a 15-pack of beer, valued at $13. Police added a summary retail theft offense to his charges.

Butler

Oct. 9 — Dawn D. Kummer, 53, of Butler, was charged with misdemeanor counts of theft and possessing stolen property related to Sept. 10 incident at Sheetz on Center Avenue. Police said Kummer went through a woman’s purse while she tended to her children and allegedly stole cash and stashed the purse in one of the store’s coolers.

Oct. 8 — John E. Kuhn, 65, of Butler, was charged with misdemeanor counts of possessing drugs and possessing drug paraphernalia related to a Sept. 1 public intoxication complaint on Walker Avenue. Police said that when they found Kuhn, he began digging through his pockets. Police said they searched him and found him holding three stamp bags of suspected heroin or fentanyl and a glass pipe.

Oct. 8 — Anthony C. Carben, 50, of Butler, was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct related to an Oct. 8 incident on West Pearl Street. Police said that in front of officers, Carben was shouting at a woman who called 911 about him. Police said he shouted racial slurs about her children and called the woman derogatory names. Police said they advised Carben to stop screaming and remain with them while they investigated. Police said Carben tried multiple times to leave the area to go to his apartment. Police said that when they confronted him about his attempts, he took an aggressive step toward officers, forcing them to bring him to the ground.

Butler County Detectives

Oct. 8 — Dartavion A. Johnson, 19, of Butler, was charged with felony aggravated assault by a prisoner and two misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats related to a Sept. 27 incident in Butler County Prison. Police said Johnson threatened to harm a guard multiple times and spit on guards.

Oct. 8 — Sarah L. Rodney, 39, of Mars, was charged with one misdemeanor count of faking a urine test related to an Oct. 3 investigation by her probation officers. Police said Rodney stored clean urine in a vial and attempted to use it during a routine test.

State Police, Butler

Oct. 17 — Keilynn A. Shaffer, 37, of New Kensington, was charged with misdemeanor DUI related to an Aug. 22 vehicle crash in Connoquenessing Township. Police said Shaffer was hospitalized from the crash and that a later blood test showed fentanyl in her system.

7:19 a.m. Oct. 14 — Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Waldron Avenue in Evans City. Police said a garbage truck hit a tree branch, which brought down a power line. Police said the driver was uninjured and drove the truck from the scene.

6:29 a.m. Oct. 11 — Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 79 in Lancaster Township. Police said Morgan E. Griffith, 28, of Sharon, ran over a dead deer, which forced her off the road and flipped the vehicle. Police said Griffith was taken by ambulance to a New Castle hospital.

5:39 p.m. Oct. 10 — Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 422 near its intersection with Route 68 in Summit Township. Police said Robert S. Morrill, 58, of Evans City, was speeding when he rolled his vehicle onto its passenger side and hit a utility pole.

3:47 p.m. Oct. 10 — Police responded to a single-vehicle hit-and-run crash on North Main Street Extension in Center Township. Police said an unknown driver hit a building and fled the scene.

Oct. 7 — Robert P. Romine, 48, of Pittsburgh, was charged with misdemeanor DUI related to a Sept. 19 report of a disabled vehicle. Police said initial checks revealed an active arrest warrant for Romine. Police said field sobriety tests showed Romine was impaired, and that a later blood test showed buprenorphine and benzoylecgonine in his system.

Oct. 7 — Ferdinand C. Heckathorn, 34, of Pleasantville, was charged with misdemeanor counts of DUI and resisting arrest related to a June 13 traffic stop on Route 8 in Slippery Rock Township. Police said that when they asked Heckathorn to perform field sobriety tests, he refused to exit his vehicle. Police said officers had to remove him from the vehicle and Heckathorn refused to perform the field sobriety tests. Police said Heckathorn then resisted arrest. A later blood test showed marijuana in his system.

Oct. 7 — Daniel P. Villaire, 65, of Butler, was charged with misdemeanor theft related to an Aug. 10 report of a man dumping garbage in a dumpster and urinating in public outside Dollar General in Brady Township. Police said the store manager saw Villaire dumping his personal garbage in the store’s dumpster. Police said that after they told him to stop, Villaire went to his car, got his dog out of the car, walked around the dumpster and began urinating.

5:15 p.m. Oct. 1 — Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Route 228 near its intersection with Victory Road in Clinton Township. Police said both vehicles had been stopped at a traffic light in the same lane. Police said Philip A. Myers, 37, of Kittanning, began driving forward while the vehicle in front of him, driven by Dustin J. Mochanski, 52, of Sarver, remained stopped. Police said Myers’ vehicle hit the rear of Mochanski’s. No injuries were reported at the scene, but Myers’ vehicle needed a tow.

State Police, Kittanning

5:15 p.m. Oct. 12 — Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 422 in West Franklin Township, Armstrong County. Police said Erin S. Oluschak-Ray, 55, of Butler, hit a guardrail as the lanes shifted in a construction zone. Police said Oluschak-Ray was uninjured in the crash.
