Kevin Switzer
Kevin Eugene Switzer, 59, of Karns City, lost his courageous battle to cancer late Monday afternoon, Nov. 11, 2024, at AHN Wexford while surrounded by his loving family.
Kevin was born in Butler on March 1, 1965. He was the son of Charlene Craig Switzer of Petrolia and the late Carl E. Switzer.
He was a 1984 graduate of Karns City Area High School. He bravely served in the U.S. Navy during Desert Storm. Kevin had been employed as a truck driver with U.E.M. He was a longtime active member of the Petrolia Volunteer Fire Department and was serving the department as a fire police lieutenant. Kevin was an avid hunter and fisherman and NASCAR fan. He and his wife enjoyed camping and traveling the country in their RV. He was a well-known and respected coach in the Petroleum Valley area, having coached baseball, basketball, and football. Kevin most especially enjoyed the company of his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Cynthia Hedrick Switzer, whom he married on May 21, 1994. The couple had recently celebrated 30 years of marriage. Also surviving are his children, Marcus Garris, Angie Garris, Tiffany Switzer and Justin Switzer; his grandchildren, Emma Garris, Austin Garris, Isabelle Garris, Declan Gallagher, Jett Switzer and Skyy Switzer; his sister, Cherri Switzer Maurhoff; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
SWITZER — Friends of Kevin Eugene Switzer, who died Monday, Nov. 11, 2024, will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at HILE FUNERAL HOME OF KARNS CITY, 128 Main St., Karns City. A memorial service conducted by members of the Petrolia Fire Department will be held at 7:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dennis Barger, longtime family friend, officiating. Military honors will be accorded at 10:45 a.m. Friday at the funeral home by members of the Chicora and Bradys Bend American Legion posts.
