Five people older than 70 were injured in a crash Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 12, in Jefferson Township, when two vehicles collided on Saxonburg Road.

State police said one vehicle was traveling north on Saxonburg Road around 3 p.m. when the driver lost control while negotiating a right turn, sending the vehicle into the southbound lane, where it struck an oncoming vehicle.

The driver of the northbound vehicle, John Damico, 75, of Butler, was the only person in the vehicle, but the other vehicle was carrying four people: a driver, Henry Kowaleski, 79, of Saxonburg, and three passengers, Joyce Wise, 83, Nancy Danik, 79, and Delores Mrozinski, 85, all of Saxonburg.

Everyone involved was taken to hospitals by ambulance, except for Danik, who was taken by a medical helicopter.
