Albert Hortert Jr.
Albert A. Hortert Jr., 68, of West Sunbury, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, at UPMC Shadyside after a short illness.
Born on April 24, 1956, in Butler, he was the son of the late Albert A. Hortert Sr. and Margaret “Peg” (Sherman) Hortert.
Al retired from AK Steel in 2016, after a career as a bricklayer and then retired from Campbell Bus Lines in 2024. He also previously worked for Bank’s Market and Slater’s Meat Market. He was a lifetime member of the North Washington Volunteer Fire Department.
Al is survived by his wife, Wendy J. (Smith) Hortert, whom he married on July 19, 1975; his daughter, Ashley (Jeff) Byrns, his son, Eric (Lauren) Hortert, both of Butler; five grandchildren, Kyla, Ryan and Carson Hortert and Aidan and Ciara Byrns; four sisters, Sandra (Wally) Hortert Goff of Texas, Stella Chiappini of Butler, Marie Grimm of Butler, and Grace (Donald) Humphrey of Virginia; one brother, Ronald “Butch” McDonald of Hookstown; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanette Snow; and his brother, Sam McDonald.
HORTERT — Family and friends of Albert A. Hortert Jr., who died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, will be received for visitation from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at WILLIAM F. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 132 Main St., West Sunbury. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the funeral home with family friend, Kevin Popa, officiating.
Private burial to follow at West Sunbury Union Cemetery.
