Fire destroys garage, damages home on Hilliard Road Thursday morning
Seven fire departments responded to a fire in Washington Township early Thursday morning, Nov. 14, which destroyed a garage and damaged a home.
Butler County dispatch report said the call came in at 1:44 a.m. Thursday for 324 Hilliard Road, with the caller saying the house was on fire.
According to Ryan Enscoe, assistant chief with the Washington Volunteer Fire Department, when crews arrived on scene, they were met with a “fully involved” fire in a detached garage which is where it started, that was spreading to the porch of a single-wide mobile home.
Enscoe said that it took about three hours to get the fire out. He described the garage as a “total loss” which had some yard equipment and a vehicle inside.
The mobile home itself sustained a fair amount of fire, smoke and water damage, but was not destroyed.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Enscoe said.
North Washington Volunteer Fire Department was the lead agency on the call, and dispatch said the state police fire marshal is investigating the fire.
Enscoe said in addition to North Washington, crews from Eau Claire Fire Department, West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department, Marion Township Volunteer Fire Company, Bruin Volunteer Fire Department, Petrolia Volunteer Fire Department and Chicora Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the scene.
