College roundup: BC3 women’s volleyball stays alive in NJCAA tournament consolation bracket

One day after suffering a first-round loss, Butler County Community College women’s volleyball extended its season to one final day.

The No. 6 Pioneers won two straight Friday in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III tournament consolation brackets in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, beating No. 14 Monroe-Bronx 3-0 and No. 15 Bunker Hill 3-0 to make Saturday’s ninth-place game.

No stats were available.

BC3 (24-2), which snapped a two-game losing streak with the wins, will play 13th-seed Rochester at 11 a.m. ET.

The Pioneers fell 3-1 to 11th-ranked DuPage in Thursday first round.

SRU men’s soccer knocked out

Slippery Rock men’s soccer lost after six rounds of penalty kicks, 5-4, to No. 13 Bloomsburg in the PSAC Tournament semifinals Friday.

The Rock finish the season 9-4-5, their best record since 2015.

Senior forward Aaron Finney had SRU’s only goal in regulation.

Pitt men’s basketball blows out WVU

Damian Dunn scored a game-high 23 points to lead Pitt to an 86-62 win over rival West Virginia.

The Panthers (4-0) dominated in nearly every facet of the game, shooting 48% from the field while holding the Mountaineers to 39% and outrebounding WVU 45-32.

Cameron Corhen followed Dunn with 14 points and five rebounds, and Jorge Diaz Graham recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Ishmael Leggetti chippped in 15.

All four of Pitt’s top scorers shot better than 50% from the field, with Dunn going 4 of 7 from 3-point territory.
