Busy section of Main Street in Butler closed for 2 days

Crane work closed a section of South Main Street in Butler on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 16 and 17. Paula Grubbs/Butler Eagle

A short, yet busy section of South Main Street in Butler is closed to traffic on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 16 and 17 to accommodate a crane working on the roof of the former bank building that now houses Your Parents’ Basement at the southwest intersection at Jefferson and Main streets.

The closure is from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both days. Flaggers are helping pedestrians navigate the sidewalks near the area where the crane is working, so stores can remain open.

To detour, southbound traffic on Main Street is turning right onto West Jefferson Street, left onto South Washington Street, and left onto West Cunningham Street.

Northbound traffic must turn right onto East Cunningham Street, left onto South McKean Street, and left again onto East Jefferson Street.

The crane’s boom cut a dramatic diagonal stripe on Main Street’s landscape, as it towered over the eight-story building. Many curious onlookers stopped to view the spectacle on Sunday morning.
